My hair is VERY dry and unmanageable? What to do (pref. hairdressers)?

So recently I have been having some major issues with my hair. It used to be really soft when I would get it wet in the shower to where i really didnt need conditioner and I wouldnt have to brush it out right away afterwards. Now It has gotten so dry that when I get it wet it feels so rough and matted up and almost like it dries right up when water touches it (if that makes sense) And I have to bring a brush with me in the shower and brush while hampoo is in hair and then when conditioner is in hair then after i rince I have to brush again then once Im out of the shower IMMEDIATLEY BRUSH IT AGAIN. If I dont do this my hair will be a mess and I just throw it up or cry trying to brush it out. I dont know whats wrong with it. It hasnt always been like this, just within the last couple of months or so.

Im trying to figure out what to do. I dont know if I need a haircut or a hot oil treatment or if I should just give it time. My hair dosent even feel the same anymore. I used to get compliments on my hair and now I cant even fix it because its so hard to brush, let alone dry then straighten. It always ends up in a bun or ponytail once it has air dryed because my hair is wavy when I let it air dry and it just looks nasty. I cant even take my hair down when I go swimming. Its disgusting. What should I do?

I dont have that much money right now, so I want to do something that will actuallyhelp so I dont waste my money. HELP ME! its driving me insane. Im thinking of just shaving my head and letting it grow back.My hair is VERY dry and unmanageable? What to do (pref. hairdressers)?
i'm trying to figure out why your hair would be doing this in the first place....are you on any new medications? are you using a very cheap shampoo and conditioner? do you swim every day (it sounds like it might be chlorine damage)? i need a little more info...

*edit*

well it sounds like youre not doing anything to make your hair do this. my advice is to get a really good deep conditioner. redken makes a product line called ';all soft'; and i use it on my clients with extremely dry hair. u can put it on in the shower and leave it in for 10 minutes. dont brush your hair when its wet, that will cause a lot of breakage. after you rinse it out comb your hair with a wide toothed comb then apply a leave in conditioner, this doesnt have to be a certain brand - just something to keep it moisturized while its dry. the all soft is a little pricey but well worth it. try to get it if you can. if you dont see results after a couple of conditioning treatments then i would suggest getting as much cut off as you can live with. hope this helps:)My hair is VERY dry and unmanageable? What to do (pref. hairdressers)?
A simple deep conditior will work.. leave it in for 5 to ten mminutes and rinse it out. While the conditon is in comb it down and then blow dry it with a diffuser. This should solve your problem! If not you might want to look into a chinese straightner, its a chemical treatment the permintenly striaghtens hair.
i think brushing it when its wet damages your hair!! and is it because its very long? or perhaps very thick?? perhaps get a haircut.. thin it out (if its too thick) and then quickly invest on some good (yet not too expensive) leave-in conditioner maybe? and get some moisture-intense shampoo designed for damaged hair..perhaps tell us a little bit more detail about your hair??? we will try to help!!
It could be buildup....try a clarifying shampoo, then use a ';cone'; free conditioner. (any ingredient ending with -cone or -xane is considered a ';cone';). Suave naturals is a good one to start with.

If you want more information, you can contact me.

(Is your hair straight? or curly, or wavy?)
cut it thats pretty much your only option
Ok first, I am not a hairdresser but I had your same problem, I would dye my hiar alot and blow dry/ straighten it.

1. Stop straightening your hair so much. give your hair a break for the heat.

2. Go to your nearest Walgreen's and buy ';Mane n Tail'; Shampoo and conditioner. It is about $7.50 per bottle but works wonderfully.

3. Go on eBay and pick up ';Mane n Tail'; herbal gro spray therapy.

These products are alot cheaper than salon products but give you the same result.

  • Burnt scalp from overdying my hair. ANYONE IN BEAUTY SCHOOL OR HAIRDRESSERS?

I need major help. I have dyed my hair quite a few times this week, because i bleached it and it looked AWFUL. I don't know what to do about it..my scalp burns really bad, my hair looks awful (it's extremely damaged and broken), and i can't avoid the ponytail because wearing it down looks about 10 times as bad. I need someone to help me that knows what they're talking about, because I need to do something about this tomorrow. Please help me :( Thanks so much!Burnt scalp from overdying my hair. ANYONE IN BEAUTY SCHOOL OR HAIRDRESSERS?
A lot of colors and especially lighteners will make your hair as dry as the desert. So doing this repeatedly over a very short amount of time, I can only imagine how cry your poor hair is! Your hair is thirsty! What you should do is buy a hydrating treatment at a beauty supply store or sometimes they carry them at department/retail stores. A very rich conditioner would work 'okay' too. Saturate towel dried hair with it and put it in a plastic shower cap. The longer you leave it in, the better result you will get. Do some chores, surf the internet, do anything! I would suggest at least an hour. Believe me, you'll forget it's even on and your hair will be loving you. For extra penetration, heat up the hair with a blowdrier through the cap. What that does is open up the outer layer of hair to let the moisture in deeper. I would suggest doing this every other day depending on the damage. Then just wash it out!

Try alternative methods of wearing your hair, a thick headband or very loose ponytail. Any stress on the hair can make it break off much easier. Also, DO NOT color your hair again for a while. I've been in situations where clients who have very damaged hair come in and someone colors their hair and it falls out in chunks in the sink. You don't want that. The scalp issue just needs time to heal up but don't put any products such as gels or sprays anywhere near your scalp because it will very much delay the healing process. Steer clear of curling irons and flat irons as well. The heat will further damage your hair. I hope this helps! Good luck!Burnt scalp from overdying my hair. ANYONE IN BEAUTY SCHOOL OR HAIRDRESSERS?
Put aloe vera gel on your scalp to relieve and heal the burns.

Don't put anymore chemicals or heat on your head, you will be in more pain and do more damage.

The damage to you hair is already done and you will have to live with the ponytail until you can get a hair cut.

Aloe won't cure the hair problem but won't do any more damage.
No pony tails, it pulls the hair and that's the last thing you want to do right now because it will cause more breaking and damage to your hair and scalp. Rinse it first and apply conditioner to it and leave it. After about 5 min. rinse the conditioner out with cool water then get to a salon.
There are scalp masks that you apply to your scalp, wait like 5 min. and then wash out. My friend had a really dry scalp and this really helped her.
Saturate your hair in olive oil, gently rubbing it into the scalp. Wrap it in a warm, slightly moist towel and leave it on as long as you can. Try to avoid heat. You've damaged your hair and scalp enough. Your cuticle needs time to relax. It's not going to happen over night, but it will calm down eventually. If you absolutely have to color it again in order to fix it, then go with a semi permanent, but be careful. Buy a shade lighter than what you originally want, because damaged hair takes on color too dark sometimes. Do a strand test to see how long to leave it on. You might not have to leave it on as long as what the box says.

Get one of those do it yourself packs from pricline or kmart it does the base colour and highlights with very clear instructions. The pack costs about $25 i'm not sure of the name( maybe loreal) but when you go to the hair section of the store you will know what i am talking about cause it shows a picture on the front. Otherwise if you don't want to do it yourself go to Hairhouse Warehouse the salon in there is reasonably priced

RED HAIR - how can i get it brown (not too dark) hairdressers help is appreciated.?

Basically i have been dying my hair red for a year using xxl live colour (hair was a mousey brown) but im fed up of it and want to go to a chocolate brown colour.

Ive tried not to dye my hair now for 3 months so it will hopefully fade abit but now my roots are coming through badly and i dont want to put another red dye over it but the roots are getting me down as they look awful.

How can i try and get my hair a nice brown colour - i really dont want it to go ginger or browny-red, please help. x

also as i am pregnant i dont really want to be putting too much hair dye on or a colour stripper as im unsure whether i can use thisRED HAIR - how can i get it brown (not too dark) hairdressers help is appreciated.?
firstly - yes in order to get rid of the red (which will show as undertones beneath a brown dye) then you will need to use a colour remover. don't panic though, they are far less harsh than bleach and are well known for being non-damaging. i really recommend Goldwell: http://www.salonsdirect.com/PD_51339.asp鈥?/a>

then use a ash brown dye to fully neutralise any remaning red tones, try a light ash brown dye so as to not go too dark immediately. it is much easier to darken it if it is too light than to lighten it if it is too dark. i recommend Revlon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Revlon-Colorsilk鈥?/a>

Hair coloring/ bleaching? I NEED HELP! Not going to a hairdressers.?

Ok, so I have dark brown hair, its got natural kind of reddish gold highlights. So now that it's the summer, I want to get purple in my hair.(dark purple) Just on the tips in a few places, and a streak through my bangs. My mom says no hairdresser, too expensive. I'm not allowed to have funky colored hair at school, so it has to be out before the end of summer. What Im wondering is- To bleach, or not to bleach? And how do I go about it? I'm thinking that by the end of the summer I can:

A, have it trimmed, no more bleach or purple, or...

B, color the ends natural red or something?

    PLEASE HELP ME!

PS, I live in florida, so my hair might be lighter by the end of the summer, if that makes a difference?

This isnt me, but this person as about the same hair color, mines a bit lighter.

You could use a very dark brown dye and that will cover the red and new growth, but you will probably have some red tint to your hair in certain lights and sunlight. To get rid of the red undertones all together you are going to need to get a color stripper and probably do it a few times to remove all the red color. Then you can use the dark brown color over that.Red hair - want to change colour but dont know how, hairdressers opinions would be helpful please?
hey ! well my friend had the same problem when she was dying her hair from red to brown. what she did was (like you did) waited for it to fade a bit and then she went ahead and used a dark brown colour straight on it. it turned out not as dark as she would have liked so she dyed it again. if you look on the pack of hair dye packaging it normally states what colour your hair will turn after you've dyed it, like in a diagram.

even better get it professionally dyed, they will know for certain what to do.

hope i helped and good luck, im sure it will look great!

    hiyarbbycks xx
im not a hairdresser or anything but i think you should get two dark brown hair dyes, if the first one goes abit rong it should work after the second one :) x

What treatment would I need on my hair in the hairdressers for my hair to become platinum blonde?

My hair colour at the moment is the colour in my yahoo picture. I have had highlights and tints at the hairdressers and I have never been happy with the light blonde results. Last time I went I had highlights done but they have grown out rapidly. I cannot dye my hair myself since I have so much bleach in it. What could I have done at the hairdressers to achieve my hair to be a colour which is around the lightness of platinum blonde? What treatment would I need on my hair in the hairdressers for my hair to become platinum blonde?
You need a platinum tint. all tint supliers are different, im a hairdresser and we use alfaparf tints....but all platinums are usually around base 11 and 11.3 mixed with 30 volume! u hairdresser will know what ur talking about if you tell her this! good luck xWhat treatment would I need on my hair in the hairdressers for my hair to become platinum blonde?
You could ask for a bleach rinse - which is basically washung your hair with diluted bleach to lift it a couple of shades, I would then ask for a light ash tone to be put on as this is the lightest colour you could get.

If you're desperate to style it, then blow dry it whilst combing the kinks out then straighten.. Afterwards you can style is however you like. It will however, take quite awhile to achieve this..

    That's a cute cut.

The hair dresser won't say anything rude to you, if she does, get up and leave. She will probably ask you how it happened, and will probably give you some tips on how to keep it from happening again, or if she thinks it is something serious she will let you know. She knows you are coming to her for some answers and help. What will the hairdresser say when she sees my hair?
they will probably try and sell you really expensive products that will help but only as much as another cheaper brand.

put a conditioning mask on it before you go and use heat defence spray and a serum. it will make it softer and smoother.

they might give you a style idea to cover up the bald spot.

honey and cinamon powder is supposed to help hair grow quickly and heal. im not making it up!!!
They may say its abit damaged and explain to you how you can improve it but if they start making u feel bad just remind them that you're there to get it sorted and you're paying him/her to do it!! I think everything will be fine though.

    Good luck and nice style!
it sounds like alopica - i would get this checked out, its not contagious but i would have you GP look at it..... incase its not heat damage

A lot of colors and especially lighteners will make your hair as dry as the desert. So doing this repeatedly over a very short amount of time, I can only imagine how cry your poor hair is!

What would be a fun Holiday Gift for my Hairdresser?

She's done my hair for a few months now, and during the holidays, I like to give out little things here and there, as far as price anywhere from $5-$15.

    HELP

Thanks lovelys ;):S i don't know my hair colour xD help!!! any hairdressers :)?
I don't think ur hair is that blonde....maybe it auburn...I wouldn't put brown highlights in it, or colour it brown, if ur hair is still that colour...how about blonde, if ur hair is blonde than make it dirty blonde i think it would look good with ur face:S i don't know my hair colour xD help!!! any hairdressers :)?
tbh..i think its a bit dodgy buying them over the internet. you dont know what quality they are ? when i went to buy my extensions the women that WORKED in the hairdressing place gave me the WRONG colour after physically matchin it to my hair IN PERSON. so if i ******* that up im pretty sure if you buy them over the internet your not going to be satisfied. best choice? go to the salon services and there is a colour chart were they will match your hair EXACTLY. and the quality will be so much better. there a bit costy.. but by looking at your hair you would only need 2 strips. most people need about 3 or 4 :] so your lucky. dont make the same mistake i did.. it cost me 拢70 lol. hope i helped xx

Blow dry or diffuse??? Any hairdressers or experts out there?

I have mid length curly hair that is not crazy curly (straight at the root more curly halfway down to ends). I have a fringe which I wear straight with my ghd's - thank God for them!! I usually diffuse my hair and then smooth it out to the curled style with the ghd's but it never looks as shiny/smooth as my fringe which has been blow dried. Do you think I would acheive a better/smother look by blow drying my hair straight then curling with the ghd's rather than diffusing first which does have a tendency to make it slightly frizzy!??Blow dry or diffuse??? Any hairdressers or experts out there?
Yes you should blow dry if you are looking for a smooth straight look. Diffusers are meant to use if you would like to keep the style curly, not if you are going to straighten the curls out.

You should wait to get the perm. For now, you can just do a ';comb-over'; and maybe use a gel or something to hide the shaved area. You could also just comb the hair back and away from your face and wear a soft wide head band.

  • Help my hair turned orange after I bleached it? Hairdressers please answer?

I had naturally dark brown, to black hair. I really wanted to go blonde, but I did a huge mistake. I did my research, and

I stupidly followed the directions. This is what I did.

    (1. Stripped my hair.

    (2. Bleached my hair.

    (3. Added the color.

I didn't do it all at once though.

It turned out bright - orange!

Please tell me step-by-step what I should do now! Should I dye my hair light brown and then add heavy highlights? (Will it

    turn out blonde?)

Please help me. I've got school in a week, this orange hair doesn't look natural, it looks fake and ugly!

    Thanks in advance.

    Please don't tell me to visit a hairdresser because I can't. I don't have the money and I'll repeat that again - I can't.

I'm sorry but I'll flag your answer if you tell me to go to a hairdresser or save up for one. Thanks.Help my hair turned orange after I bleached it? Hairdressers please answer?
I'm a hairstylist and its hard to say exactly what to do without seeing it. My guess is that from what you said, orange was inevitable if your hair is dark. Its hard to get past a certain level with store bought items. So now you don't have the money, my best advice would be to first condition your hair for a couple days because bleach dries it out. Then go to a beauty store, like a sally's beauty, and talk to one the service reps. They will look at your hair and make a recommendation. By not seeing it, its hard to say what color to use or fill it with to make it look right again. If you go back to brown and add hi-lites, you'll get back to what you have now but probably worse. Coloring is not easy and if your not sure you end up being unhappy and in a mess.Help my hair turned orange after I bleached it? Hairdressers please answer?
Okay well, have you tried a blonde toner? When I bleached my hair it had orange spots and the toner make them blonde. Go to a store that specialises in hair products and ask if a blonde toner will fix your problem.

    If not...

Don't do anything to you hair for a couple of days. No straightening or blowdrying or anything. Just a very good deep conditioner. Condition so it feels less fried and dry.

After a few days when it feels less dry then dye it light brown. A lot of store blonde hairdyes turn out orange and brown hairdye from the shops is safer. Just not too dark of a brown or your hair might get a green tinge. (Been there, done that)

You could do heavy highlights, but do you think you'd be alright going to school with just light brown hair for a little while?

I seriously think you need a few week resting period before you do the heavy highlights. Your hair will be so so so dry.

    Good luck.
not a hairdresser but if i were in your shoes i would cut my hair short in a cute style after the dye and yes try a color again.

i would look at the tone of the orange whether its warm or cool then i would choose a color that could combine with it on a similar level not too light or dark.

please note that you could fry your hair into fuzziness or burnt off in patches.

i hope a hairdresser does answer this you poor dear.

*****'s go blonde all the time so it is possible. i hope your next time is successful.

    do go on beach blond!!

you should try the lightest blond next to that color!

the shades are always a lighter color than what they look on the boxHelp! dye brown hair blonde at home cannot afford hairdressers!.. tips?
Your hair seems dark so its going to be hard pulling up to blonde and not orange. I would suggest going to sally beauty supply or any public beauty supply store and asking one of the workers to help you find some bleach blonde dye and also get a toner to tone your hair if it comes out too orange. I honestly just wait and save up some money and go to the salon and have them lighten your base a few shades and pack your head full of highlights to acheive the blonde look. I have dark hair and thats what I had to do.
    Lemon!
Don't try to bleach your hair over all after just having colored it dark. It will most definitely process orange or yellow. First what you should try to do is strip the brown color from your hair and then try to lighten your hair with bleach. Try mixing baking soda into your shampoo, pour a little bit of baking soda in your hand with your shampoo mix it together with your hands and then apply the mixture to your hair and shampoo normally. Be sure to condition your hair afterward. Baking soda has abrasive properties and will help remove some of the color from your hair. Do this for a couple of days or even a week, as long as it is not drying your hair. Then try your bleach, if you still have orange or yellow tones you may want to try a toner to correct it.
Stay a brunette! If you dye it wrong it will look bad and could dry out your hair so much i can start breaking or fall out. Besides, you'll have to keep dying it when your roots grow out, your eyebrows won't match ... and brunettes have more fun anyway!!
Been there and done it.... you have to buy those highlight kits and highlight it with those caps it comes with do it slowly as in every 2 months just hightlight more hair, etc.... the reason why is because if you do it fast then it will turn orange when you do it as highlights and slowly you can't really tell and everytime you add more highlights it highlights new brown hair AND some of the already highlighted hair and makes it even lighter and blonder.

It requires a lot of patience and you have to condition it really well too! bleach is realy drying....

Well, I would suggest that you go to a professional as there's a high risk of you doing severe damadge to your hair, believe me! The brown pigment set in your hair cuticles will prove difficult to get rid of and bleach would further increase the damadge by making them brittle and turning your hair orange. There is NO safe procedure to carry out at home when dying your hair to blonde especially if you're a natural brunette or had your hair recently colored brown. In any case, if you still want to try it at home, seek professional advise before attempting anything at home. You can ask a professional for some tips on how to revert to your orignal hair color. Why not ask the same person who dyed them for you in the first place. If you feel they would expect you to pay, just say, you wanted to know how it's done just in case you get them to turn you into a blonde again, if you know what I mean!

    All the best!

What do I have to ask for at the hairdressers for a surfy beached wavey longish look?

My hair is naturally quite wavey.

A few years ago, in South America of all places, I went to a hairdressers and asked for short and spikey. The hairdresser (he probably had few male customers with hair like mine) got all carried away, insited on using his ';tecnico'; and gave me anything but spikey hair (and my Spanish wasn't THAT bad - we did talk about ';pinturas';).

Instead, I ended up with this really, really, nice cut. He was chopping left right and centre, and the result was an emphasis on my waves, and a classic, ';surfy'; beached look. I loved it! Every hairdresser over there did the same thing, and my hair looked great.

Roll forward a coupla years, and back in the UK, I just don't get what I really want now. I always ask for my hair to be ';thinned out'; (it's way too thick), and ';chopped into';, but they seem far too delicate in doing so. My latest cut is a bit of a ';bob'; now. I would have complained but I don't know what to ask for!!

Help? What do I have to ask for at the hairdressers for a surfy beached wavey longish look?
go to Google, images, and type in surfer look, it will bring up mucho styles print the one you like best and take it to your hairdressers

Would it be a good idea for 2 apprentice hairdressers to try to un-mat my hair, compared to 2 more experienced?

(I'm actually an Australian asking this, but it's rather late here,

so I thought I would ask it as a U.S. question instead)

Even though they work (and this would be done) at a professional hair-dressing/styling salon.

Or would it be better for more experienced/senior hair dressers/stylists to have a go at trying to un-do the mats, knots, et cetera?

One salon has quoted me $17 (AUD) for 2 apprentices to have a go at it, compared to $40 to $50 (AUD) for a more experienced/senior hair dresser to do it.

Whilst a different salon, has quoted me $40 (AUD)

But I am not sure, whether that would be for a senior/more experienced, or less experienced hair dresser/stylist to have a go at it?

Is it better to arrange an appointment with one who is more experienced/senior in the salon they work in, or wouldn't it necessarily matter? If they were successful in un-matting/knotting my hair, I wouldn't want them to break it off, et cetera.Would it be a good idea for 2 apprentice hairdressers to try to un-mat my hair, compared to 2 more experienced?
yes you should go to a professional

My mum won't let me go to the hairdressers?

Okay i am soooo mad. All I want is a cut that touches my shoulders and a thick side fringe. That's it. Not drastic. And my mum won't take me! It is soooo annoying coz all my mates go and I dont! SHe's cool about other stuff but when it comes to hair, she always hates cutting mine. My mum loves long hair and she'll give any excuse to not get mine cut. Mine is short by the way.

How can I bloody convince her?My mum won't let me go to the hairdressers?
well, how old are you? tell your mom that at a certain age, children just want to try out their own things, like clothes, what books or movies they like, music etc. and hair is a big way that people represent who they are. try to make a deal with her, like if she lets you get a haircut, you'll do something for her (like clean, make dinner etc).

the fact is, sooner or later you're going to change your hairstyle, and maybe having really long hair just isn't your thing. she's going to have to accept that you may not always want to look exactly like she wants you to someday. explain that you're not doing anything other parents would consider 'extreme' like getting piercings or tattoos, so she should be happy! My mum won't let me go to the hairdressers?
Hey, first go to ur mom at a time were shes not busy. Tell her that u want ur hair how u want it and u want to get it trimed tell her u wrote like its not the drastic and then point out a day were ur free and tell her this is a good time.

just really try to convince her.

really i wish u good luck!
Tell her that if she wont let you get it cut that u will do it urself an then shell get an oppointment right away.Thatz what my mom did:P
How old are you? You shouldn't get a haircut untill you are atleast 14 a trim maybe but that's it.

  • Is there somewhere you can name and shame bad hairdressers that refuse to fix thier mistakes or refund your $$?

Have had a shocking colour put in my hair. Showed the hairdresser exactly what i wanted, it was on one of the wigs in the salon. Left at 7pm in the dark and was told it would look better in the natural daylight. What i wanted was a chocolate/mud brown, what i got is a burgundy that glows red in any form of light. Went back next day to take her up on her ';satisfaction guarantee'; she told me all about during the procedure. She really likes the colour and is very satisfied with it, and cant understand why i hate it so much. (Did i mention she is 60+ years old with bright red and orange hair). Cost $210 for first attempt, she is willing to fix it but is going to charge $200+ depending on how much product she needs to use. Apparently it is HER satisfaction that she is guaranteeing, not mine. She reckons i'm the first unhappy customer she has had in 50yrs of hairdressing, i highly doubt that. Not much that i can do if she wont fix for free or refund so i can pay someone else to fix it. Is there any where that you can let others know about bad hairdresser experiences? How else are these types of hairdressers meant to be held accountable? Is there somewhere you can name and shame bad hairdressers that refuse to fix thier mistakes or refund your $$?
You do not say where you are , the paragraphs below I copied from the website at the bottom which is the Hairdressers Registration Board of W.A. It is just an example , click on the link for more info. If you go to another hairdresser in your town and ask them about who you can direct complaints to they will most likely tell you otherwise Google hairdressing complaints for your state and see what comes up. My daughter is a hairdresser and occasionally they have complaints which they fix for no extra charge cos they do not want to get a bad name.

';The Board has been extremely successful in negotiating and mediating consumer complaints that it receives. This success has demonstrated how effective the Board can be in limiting the negative publicity and court action that complaints would normally attract.

By having an effective disputes resolution process in place the Board can usually negotiate an outcome that is acceptable to all parties. This service has proven to be extremely valuable in enforcing standards and maintaining a professional image for the industry.';Is there somewhere you can name and shame bad hairdressers that refuse to fix thier mistakes or refund your $$?
You might try complaining with the BBB. They don't have any power to make the hairdresser do anything but they can try to negotiate with her. If she gets a lot of complaints then she will have a low BBB rating. You can also try her state's licensing board to see if you can complain to them.

My hair went wavy after going to the hairdressers?

I use to have very long hair (around up to my waist) and it was dead-straight %26amp; shiny, kinda like it was done with straighteners (but it wasn't). I went to the hairdressers 2 months ago and got it cut up to medium length (4 inches down my shoulder) and on that day (after the hairdressers) it was very straight. I also got my hair washed and blow dried by the hairdresser.

After going home, I got wet by a prank water balloon trick. I had to go wash my hair again. This time, my hair turned wavy and kinda frizzy %26amp; has many fly aways.

The worst thing is that the front is straight but the back is wavy. It looks frizzy and looks poufy.

What should I do to my hair? I don't want to use gel, but will use mousse.

I'm not going to straighten my hair or get an oil treatment.

Also, why has it gone wavy?My hair went wavy after going to the hairdressers?
Did you get a layered hair cut? Sometimes straight hair can be influenced into waves by layers...

Also was it hotter on the day? Did you sweat? Sometimes hormones can affect the oil and hair condition on the day. You need to use a different conditioner.

If you hairdry hair, curl inwards so the flyaways go in, not out.My hair went wavy after going to the hairdressers?
It is probably because you got layers if u did. Try shampoos that make hair straighter like Herbal essence dangerously straight.
did you get layers at the back?most of the weight in your hair that was making it so straight has been cut away, making it much lighter and allowing it to bounce up more.thats just hair im afraid. just think about someone who has really curly hair, when u pull it down its super long, but wen u let go its a lot shorter. adding layers to the mix will make it even more poofier...but when styled probably has a lot more personality than the boring old long hair u used to have. yes u can use mousse but it will not make ur hair any straighter.it will tame it,and if u flip ur hair over and scrunch the hair with mousse in your hands it will give a really nice effect.just play with it!!!

EDIT-oh by the way dont go wasting money on new shampoo's and conditioners, believe me they will not work,u cant buy shampoo to make straight hair curly,so how can u buy shampoo to make wavy hair straight???hormones will not effect ur hair's natural wave either, unless your hair has been shaved off and is growing back for the first time,or is falling out.have u ever heard of someone waking up with their dead straight hair tuning into an afro??!!!!no!!!!yes gradually as the hair grows it may change shape, but not by the way u epxerienced it
Wavy may very well be the way your hair is naturally, and the weight from its length that was making it so straight.

Your best bet, if you want it to look straight, is probably blow it dry with low heat but high air flow. That should get rid of most of the waves.

Otherwise look into shampoos and conditioners specifically for curly hair. I use Herbal Essence Totally Twisted 2 in 1 for daily care along with a weekly semi-deep conditioning (2 minutes), and my curls are soft and shiny (I just realized I really need to update my Yahoo Answers piccy).

You may also have to look into a new style. I found I look good in either fairly long or really short cuts, but anything in between made me look like Bozo. :(

My hair is yellow with some red tones hairdressers please?

I had dark hair (which was dark brown hair color) by clairol was 4 so I bleached it because I wanted to go lighter since spring is here really didnt want real light blonde anyways but did want it lighter I picked up the lighter shade which is closest to my on hair color was told 5 or 6 by clairol would be best for the color im trying to achieve, but now with it being yellow with red tones Im afraid it might turn out a funky color. I got clairol 6G base golden dark golden blonde. Will that be ok to put over my hair without it turning orange or red? or should i go with a different base?My hair is yellow with some red tones hairdressers please?
If you don't want gold/red tones you need to use a violet base. Don't use a ash base or it will turn muddy. Once you have dyed your hair you can only go darker or stay the same level but you can change the tone DYE WILL NOT LIFT DYE. Dye will only lift natural color 2 levels with 20 volume developer. If you choose to go lighter then you have to bleach the dyed part to the level you want, not your roots at first or they will be way lighter, put on when hair level is similar to root color. Then put the desired color over your entire hair. . Don't use ';box color'; it's unpredictable %26amp; contains metallics that can leave permanent lines in your hair if you change color products. Go to Sally's Beauty Supply they have more professional products %26amp; they can assist you in your purchase %26amp; the prices are better.

I think i got ripped off at the hairdressers. does anyone no if this is true?

I just came home from the hairdressers today and i hate the result of colour! I had golden blonde hair and i wanted platinum white, not with the yellow look. The result is the tiniest bit lighter than what it was. Still disgustingly gold yellow looking! Now is it possible to get it white looking hair with one trip to the hairdresser when its dull goldy blonde?

She told me it would take a fair few times to get the white blonde look. My last hairdresser got me way whiter blonde looking than this but it didnt last long. i am so confused and feel ripped off, would it just be better to buy cheap chemist hair dye to achieve a quicker lighter look? And one more question, can i go straight to the chemist and buy a cheap dye and re do it the same day or will it be more destroyed??I think i got ripped off at the hairdressers. does anyone no if this is true?
Get hair tips and more on my website! Hope it helps!

http://www.xetherealbeauty.wordpress.comI think i got ripped off at the hairdressers. does anyone no if this is true?
it depends on how dark you were befor but if i were you id go bak and tell them what your not happy with . if you want in white blonde they should do an ash toner with a bit of violet to help contrast the gold/yellow dont do it your self you could stuff it.
I think your hairdresser is right but don't buy colour yourself and do it, that'd be a bad idea. Good luck:)
your hairdresser is probably right! When your going blonde your hair is not dyed... it is bleached... which means that it is stripping the coulout from you hair not putting it one so your hair would pretty much turn dry and brittle and snap off if it was done all at once!.... but another point is that it shouldnt be golden/yellowy.... it sounds like they should have used a toner! you can buy this from pretty much anywhere just look for a blonde shampoo i'd say it will make a good diffrence to your colour! =)
i agree with your hairdresser..... going to platinum blonde is a process if u dont wanna totally fry ur hair. its a hard color to get, and a hard color to maintain.
I don't want to give you any bad ideas (huh huh huh) but my girl friends back in school used to simply bleach their hair with hydrogen peroxide. Ended up looking nicely platinum blonde for them.

The result isn't as predictable as numerous treatments at the hairdressers, but it probably won't mess your hair up any more than loads of ammonium will - which is in just about any regular dye.

If you get TOO white by bleaching (is there such a thing) you can always tint it a bit. It'll last as long as it takes your hair to grow out :)
    I agree with the hairdresser....

Platinum Blonde is VERY light (#12 on the colour scale, #1 being Black)) and is basically stipping all pigment out of your hair. If she was to attempt doing that in one go, you would have ended up with extremely dry, damaged hair.

I would strong disagree with you buying any do-it-yourself dyes..... If you still have warm colouring in your hair (the gold yellow) and you purchase a platinum blonde which is a cool colour, you could end up with green tinged hair!

I would hold out and keep getting it done professional where at least you know you WILL end up with the result you want even if it takes a few times.

  • I want to perm my hair but all hairdressers say no?

My hair is longer than shoulder length, layered, i coloured it brown (my natural colour) 7 months ago and got blonde highlights 4 months ago.

It tends to get greasy too often so i thought about getting a perm. I always wanted to have curly hair so badly. In my country a very few hairdressers know how to do it, and if they do they do it too rarely and tend to refuse as they r not sure about the results. After visiting 7 parlors the outcome is: 4 of them say they dont do perming - the excuse: the method is too old and too damaging. The other 3 parlors do perming that lasts from 3 to 6 months and thats exactly what i want, but every single one of the hairdressers in them told me to NOT perm my hair with those blonde highlights. The reasons: the blonde hair would fall off during the procedure.

I asked them about a resolution they said ';let ur hair grow off and cut the highlights';..... hmmmm nice but that means years of waiting. Dead end. The other advice was to curl it everyday with an iron and i REALLY dont have time nor nerves for that. I need something practical and thats it.

I know people with blonde hair who had it permed 1-2 months after dying and they still have their hair. Whats so special about me that i cant do it? Honestly i lost more than an hour walking around parlors and im a bit pissed off. Yes if they say my hair will fall off, they might be right - but the truth is most hairdressers dont even have a license and make a mess of people s hair often.

Anyways the answer i want is: if its really IMPOSSIBLE as they say, what substitute of perming can i find? Or it wont harm my hair? If there s a risk then should i risk it? 10 points go to the most informing and detailed answer. If u r not willing to help me, then dont waste ur time on chit chat. Thanks in advance.I want to perm my hair but all hairdressers say no?
You didn't say what country you are from so I do not know anything about the salons there. You can perm hair that has been bleached and colored you just need a perm for high-lift color treated hair and it needs to be timed carefully because it may take sooner then the 20 minutes most perms take depending on your hair texture, thickness and porosity.I want to perm my hair but all hairdressers say no?
    Buy a wig.

For people that have front bangs or are hairdressers...

Ok so I am getting my hair cut and I have sidebangs right now. I am thinking about getting front bangs. If you have front bangs can you swoop them to the side and will they still look as good as side bangs?

will they look like this? http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d192/k鈥?/a>

If you have front bangs can you please answer this question and possibly take a pic of them and then them to the side?

ThanksFor people that have front bangs or are hairdressers...
I used to have front bangs, and at one point I thought they were cut a little too short and I was embarrassed. So instead, I did indeed swoop them to the side. It's definitely possible. It's a little harder though, depending on how short you cut your front bangs. If you get them cut right to your eyebrow or right above (like, sitting on the top of your eyebrow almost), then that's the perfect length to swoop them to the side. They will be a little shorter than the person in that picture, and depending on how thick you get your bangs cut and how you decide to swoop them (I swoop mine so I have a little bit of bang on both sides, just a little more on the right) they can look similar to that. You may need a little hairspray or gel to get your bangs to stay to the side though because they will be ';trained'; to be front bangs. And depending on how often you wear them one way, you will definitely need products to get them to stay the other way when you randomly decide to wear them differently.

    All in all, it's possible.

Don't worry about it though, just go for it. It'll turn out fine. For people that have front bangs or are hairdressers...
    I'm sorry i don't have any pictures

but coming from me (who had from bangs)

i didn't like then so i would part them to the side

it didnt look like Carrie Underwoods tho

and it wasn't the BEST looking but it was okay

you could pull it off if you wanted to

her bangs are specifically cut to look like that

    but try it

    =]
Well you can put them to the side but it might look weird cuz its going to be freshly cut but when they grow out just a little it'll look normal =)

Oh i look on my myspace for a pic and i couldnt find one.

    Sorry
if you are going to get front bangs and want them to go to the side like that you would have to keep them longer than most people do and yes you can swoop them to the side
depends how long they are. but if their down to your eyebrowss they wont look like hers because carrie's bangs are much longer. but yes you can swoop them to the side. but i dont see the point why get front bangs if your gonna swoop them
idk i dont have bangs but it will depend on how you do them and if you style it right

My hairs gone ginger, i dont wanna go hairdressers, should i bleach it?

well i have black/dark brown hair, and i REALLY wanna go a bleach blonde colour, but im not going to the hair dressers. so i got some hair lightener and that did all my roots fine but we ran out before we got to do the rest of my hair. so my friends mum went and got some more of it. so we used that and that just managed to make it GINGER! so we also had some Nice and Easy blonde dye thingy at 98? so we used that and well that had no impact on my hair. so now im stuck with blonde roots and ginger hair :/ i wanna go blonde, so should i just bleach over it? or dye it back brown then do it blonde but right? and what colour will my hair go if i do bleach it with ginger hair will it go blonde??? please help :(My hairs gone ginger, i dont wanna go hairdressers, should i bleach it?
You should have gone to the hairdresser and still should. You messed up your hair big time. If you carry on putting crap on your hair you will make it worse. My hairs gone ginger, i dont wanna go hairdressers, should i bleach it?
HAIRDRESSERS DON'T WORK! Listen to this advice.. I have spent 拢200 on correcting my hair as the hairdressers messed it up! I've been back 5 times since! The best thing is to let your natural hair grow out! My hair is now stuck bright ginger and no matter how much die i put in.. It won't change colour

DO NOT BLEACH YOUR HAIR! if keep going at that rate your hair might start coming out they only thing i can tell you is go to a beautician and see if they can dye your hair blonde! if i were you i would just dye it black dark brown or go to the hair dresser!

    Sorry
if you bleach your hair then it will go lighter but maybe not blonde. i would reccomend that you just leave you hair for a few days then go to the hairdressers before it begins to fall out!

    :(

    good luck babe!xxx
Wear a hat until you go to the hairdressers or until it washes out; which it will eventually do if you dyed it yourself.

    :D
    leave it ginger
firstly - what you needed to use first (and obviously didn't) was a good colour remover kit like Goldwell: http://www.salonsdirect.com/PD_51339.asp鈥?/a>

secondly bleach is intended for use on natural hair or hair that has been stripped with a colour removing kit first

thirdly - you should of expected that with just using bleach without the correct colour remover first that all this would do was take your hair to a brassy orange shade (it will more than likely be very patchy too)

lastly - you are going the wrong way about it to be asking on a forum whereupon 9 times out of 10 you will recieve BAD advice - this is the first bit of qualified advice

what you need to do is complicated and for some reason people on here end up choosing best answer based upon what they want to hear - the easy route. getting dark dyed hair to blonde is far from being easy and far from being cheap - please either listen to my advice or seek advice from a salon near you

    1. you needed to remove the dye with a colour remover kit, the chemicals in these are specifically formulated to reverse the coupling process of permanent dyes, it is too late for that now though, but bear it in mind for future reference

    2. then and ONLY then should you commence with bleaching. as far as bleach kits go i recommend either Smart total blonde: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Smart-Colour-Total鈥?/a> or Garnier Nutrisse: http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s鈥?/a>

please bear in mind that hair WILL (no doubt about it) go through several stages on the way to blonde, expect to see these shades: http://media.photobucket.com/image/shade鈥?/a>

hair that has a lot of red undertones may need more than one full bleachout (each one should last 45 mins maximum) some people tend to panic if they reach the orange stage and it is time to rinse it off - don't. all you need to do is to mix a fresh batch and re-apply until you reach the desired level.

p.s. there is no benefit to waiting between bleachings, contrary to popular belief hair does not ';rest'; or ';get better'; it recieves no constant blood supply like the rest of our bodies, once it has left the scalp it is already dead and therefore CANNOT be repaired. hair masks can help to mask damage though by temporarily coating the hair in silicone.

    3. once at the correct level (either yellow or pale yellow depending upon how light you want to be. aim for yellow for a level 8-9 and pale yellow for level 10-11) then a toner is used. traditionally a conditioning temporary toner like Born blonde: http://www.garden.co.uk/php/showProducts鈥?/a>

    4. at root touch-ups then ensure to do point 2 but on the root area ONLY, and point 3 can be applied all over as many times as you like as is non-damaging (contains no harsh chemicals like peroxide or ammonia)

    5. use shampoos, conditioners and styling products based upon your hair type (it is coloured and will be prone to being dry) so aim for the Pureology hydrate range: http://www.pureology.com/systems/hydrate

this range is a lifesaver on my hair.
This is a normal reaction for hair when you try to lighten in when it's that dark. Most people's hair will turn orange. It usually cannot go blonde all at one time.

You can bleach it again (make sure your hair is clean, unconditioned, and no products in it) depending on what hair type you have.

If you have thick hair, and thick hair strand texture, it *shouldnt* all fall out, but it will be damaged.

If you have thin hair, definately dont do it so soon, and I really suggest going to a salon for that.

Do not dye it brown again, thats just going to create a bigger mess and be a few steps back in going blonde.

If you do bleach it again yourself, be sure to get some hair repair products such as V05 hot oil, or henna placenta to help it.

If your parents have the money, and are willing, you should accept the offer and go to the salon in the first place to make sure you dont mess it up more. Bleaching isnt really an easy thing to do.

And next time you are going to do something to your hair, do some research so you know what you are getting into.
My natural color is dark brown and when I bleached mine I ended up with the same ginger-like color! I went to the drugstore, bought Loreal's ';Dream Blonde'; haircolor in Lightest Ash Blonde (whenever I touch-up my hair I ALWAYS buy products with ';ash'; in the color to not get the orange hint in color) and re-colored my hair. I also bought a shampoo and a conditioner made by Jhirmack called ';Silver Brightening Shampoo';. It's for gray, blonde, bleached, hi-lighted hair. It's a dark purple colored shampoo, and it really gets rid of that ginger/orange color. I totally LOVE it! I even bought the matching brightening hair spray!

How many times should you go to the hairdressers?

I would like to know this because I don't really go to the hairdressers all that often, just because I love having my long hair but I know i need to go to keep my hair in good condition. Don't get me wrong I wash and condition my hair so my hair is clean. But my hairdresser says that the bottom of my hair is really dry so she cut the splits and gave me a nice look. So I am going to be getting a shampoo that helps which moisturises and the same with conditioner and keep it in for 2mins so help and I have leave in conditioner. I want to get on top of it now and really look after my hair. People say you should go to the hairdressers every 6 weeks is that right? I would only be going there to get a cut'n' blow dry which only costs me 拢28 which may seem a lot but I can pay it and other places it costs 拢30 something so thats ok.

Thanks for the help. How many times should you go to the hairdressers?
What you've heard is right, you should go every 6-8 weeks :)How many times should you go to the hairdressers?
LOL I go about once a year! The only reason you need to cut your hair is to get rid of dry and split ends, and to keep it tidy. Hairdressers say that you should get a trim every six weeks, but it's up to you. If you want to keep it as nice a possible then yes, get it cut that often.
Find a lady barber you can trust and get a simple dry trim done there with salon inbetwen
I go every six weeks - just for a trim of the ends! Have long hair like you.
    monthly once
i go to my hair dressers every 6-8 weeks

Do i need any qualification to work at hairdressers....?

.i mean jus helping and assisting them. not doin any proper cutting and all......??

i m looking for job in a salon or sumthing like tht......nd wana learn from them,.....do u fink i can get it?

oh yeh one more thing..is tht i live in south england....west sussex.

thanx =]Do i need any qualification to work at hairdressers....?
some have what they call wash girls that do nothing but wash the hair -- it is a way to start and you can learn as you work!!!

Which picture should I bring? (Need help from hairdressers!)?

I'm going to cut my hair in about a week, and I want it like Brookelle Bones. The shape of my face is kinda the same as hers, so I'm guessing it will look good ;)

The problem is I don't know which picture to bring to the hairdresser!

Sooo... I want a hairdresser to find a picture of her that would give them a good idea of how to cut it :D

(I know she has extensions and so on, but my hair is long and thick, so I think it will work out :D)Which picture should I bring? (Need help from hairdressers!)?
Just print off several different pictures of her and take to the hair stylist. I can look at a picture and by the way the hair is laying in the front and sides, I can tell how it is cut in the back. If you have a good hair stylist, she should be able to do the same. Take in your pictures and ask the stylist if she can do this cut. You can tell by the way she will describe it if she knows what she is talking about. This is a very simple haircut to do. It's just a lot of long layers in the back that has been blended into the shorter layers at the top. If you have any questions, please email me.Which picture should I bring? (Need help from hairdressers!)?
Hmmm get a front, side %26amp; back picture so that they know exactly how you want it.. Then show them the pictures :)

    Good Luck
Ew. Why would you want to look like that? Just get a wig. It's the same effect.
