Sooo I've been trying to dye my hair a natural-red color for a while now. My hair is naturally brown and has been dyed about a million times. I recently dyed my hair with a red dye hoping that it would make my hair an auburn-red color...and while my hair looks slightly redder, it is still primarily brown looking. I think the reason that I'm having trouble dying my hair is because my hair is already so dark, so I was thinking that perhaps bleaching it and then dying over the bleached hair would work best.
The only problem is, I have nooo idea how to go about doing this, or even if I should bleach hair that has already been dyed. Is there a way to lighten my hair a few shades rather than bleaching it entirely? Any pointers at all?Any hairdressers out there? Need advice on bleaching/coloring previously dyed hair.?
Without seeing your hair it is difficult to tell. You can generally go from most brown shades to red with a permanent color wihtout much problem. It sounds like maybe you used a semi-perm color instead of a perm, so you didnt get any lift. I would go to Sallys and find a red shade you like %26amp; purchase both a 20 and a 30 vol peroxide %26amp; do a strand test on each. It may be that you need the additional lift from the 30 vol.
As for bleaching and then coloring.....that just is not a good idea...very difficult to do well %26amp; touch up at home. Dont do it.
