I really really don't like making conversation with hairdressers. It's the same conversation with every hairdresser I go to. Plus they always ask me if I'm getting my hair cut for a special occasion. It's so annoying, I wanna say 'NOOOO! I ACTUALLY TAKE CARE OF MY HAIR!!!' But I just politely mumble my way through the conversation.
Anyone else hate talking to hairdressers? Or know why hairdressers love talking to me? Or does anyone even have any interesting topics I can start up with my hairdresser? Why do hairdressers talk to me?!?!?
I know what you mean they always ask you the same questions like - where are you going on holiday, what are you doing at the weekend etc, but as I am a man my haircut only takes about ten minutes so I can put up with it that long. Why do hairdressers talk to me?!?!?
Relax...you're not being persecuted. It's a normal thing to do when suddenly in close proximity with someone who is a relative stranger. By making small talk we are just sending out little signals saying 'normal normal'...it's a kind of tribal thing. However distant you feel on the inside you do tend to make the effort to communicate your 'normality' to put the other person at ease, even if it is just a trivial conversation. Only people lacking in basic manners or those with problems in making connections socially will fail to react to small place overtures.
I don't enjoy chatting with hairdressers and I am bored by small talk...but it helps oil the wheels in social situations. If you respond back in kind it reassures and puts the other person at ease. And if that person happens to be a hairdresser then they will do a better job.
I have been a hairdresser for 15 years now. I love having conversations with my clients. I have to say though, that some clients dont like being chatted to while they are having their hair done. In my experience, if i get the impression that the client doesnt want to talk, then i leave them be and just get on with giving them a great haircut!! Sometimes, i find it can be necessary to talk to the client and get a general idea about them, so that you can give them a haircut which will suit their lifestyle etc...
Im exactly the same, although i dont stop for breath when talking with friends. They always ask are you going away on holiday this year? I told the lady who does my hair now that i dont really like the fuss and just like to get my hair done and go, we did have a laugh about it, i wasnt rude, but she said she understands. She did say that many clients like to be pampered and chatted to, so they cant win really.
my mums a hairdresser
its a bit awquard if shes standing ther cutting or colouring your hair in silence for an hour or so
plus they would get yelled at by the boss and the others if they acted un sociable
try thinking like what would you talk about to somebody you didnt know? and could you keep diffrent covnersations running with 6 diffrent people everyday?
talk to them about what your doing in your life or just make up something
well i have had the same hair dresser since i was one and its funny, she is my best friends aunt but umm, i ididnt really know her when i was younger and she always loved talking its just because she wants to make conversation and be nice and your hairdresser probably wants you to go back to her! lol
well im a guy so its like 15 mins at most but i think its great they talk to you cos the ppl i go to are safe!!!!
but i suggest u close ur eyes and lean back on the chair cos that will make it hard for them to talk to you !!!!
or you could talk back cos it mite make u change ur mind and make gettin ur hair cut more enjoyable :P
Lol!
Interesting question!
Well urm I don't mind talking to my hairdresser they give you tons of tips on how to take care of your hair and how to straighten it easliy..
Just mumble along.. you might find you have something in common then you can talk about that!
Good luck
x
well I'm a hairdresser my self and it is not that we want to chat you up first thing we want to make you feel more comfortable sometimes it's nice to get to know new clients and that's all love so next time just chat back as long as they don't get out of place
uggghh i know exactly what you mean !!!!! i hate it sooo much ! and i just try to keep the conversation going so the haircut goes by quicker and it doesnt get awkward, dont start any new topics, just add on to whatever they say...good luck !
They cut hair all day, do you think they want to just do it in silence? They're friendly and avoiding an awkward hair session.
It's not to get a bigger tip...it's just part of their job.
i like talking to my hair dresser lol...well she's young and we talked about like mtv and what shows are good and stuff like that
i LOVE talking to hairdressers...
i hate it too but i guess they do that so they can get a bigger tip or so its not as awkward
i hate it when they talk to me it is so weird i dont evn know them! : 0
